ABSTRACT: The present article analyzes how the consumption of millennials (born between 1982 and 2005) affect the propensity to invest. Nevertheless, since the end of World War II (1937-1945) the major political and economic changes have had a direct impact on the generations, especially on how they will consume and invest. According to some authors, the generation of young people born between 1982 and 2005, and also known as generation Y, did not become different in other countries, mainly in Europe, Latin America and the United States. In the United States, however, most of the young people surveyed reside in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. In the same aspect, we sought to identify the characteristics of these young people with regard to their knowledge of the financial market, their own consumption, how they plan to retire and whether they are Fintech clients. To identify if there is a rupture with previous generations, the generation of Baby Boomers (born between 1943 and 1960, according to some authors) was also studied, following the same criteria questioned by the youngsters. With a focus on generation millennials, the methodology used was face-to-face interviews in both generations with questions tailored for the extraction of qualitative information.

Keywords: Millennials, baby boomers and Fintech.
